Shopping App Developer Zoomingo Launches New Pinterest Integration to Provide a Best of Social Web Shopping Experience
Lets Consumers Find the Best Sales Anywhere Whether Online or in Their Local Stores
SEATTLE, WA–(Marketwire – Jul 11, 2012) – Zoomingo, creators of shopping discovery apps that let shoppers find the best sales in their local stores anywhere in the nation, today announced a new Pinterest integrated version of its innovative shopping app. With this new version, shoppers can discover the most desirable online sale items on Pinterest combining Pinterest popularity with attractive sale prices. In addition, with the new version, shoppers can get instant sale alerts for any online shopping item that they or others have pinned on Pinterest.
Available now, the new version of Zoomingo not only tracks sales in more than 70,000 local retail outlets across the nation but also the most popular online items from the top 100 retailers on Pinterest. Zoomingo’s powerful sales search and tracking engine now automatically identifies and categorizes the most popular online shopping related items pinned on Pinterest. Shoppers can browse or search for any item they want by category, store, brand and price. With Zoomingo’s new “Watch it” feature, shoppers can get sale alerts for any online item including items that they have pinned on Pinterest. Zoomingo immediately starts tracking these items and instantly notifies the user when any item has gone on sale.
“By zooming in on the most popular items and sales from Pinterest, Zoomingo allows shoppers to benefit from the tremendous ‘social curation’ that’s taking place on Pinterest,” said Shirish Nadkarni, CEO and co-founder of Zoomingo. “Better yet, with Zoomingo’s new Watch it feature they can get sale alerts for their favorite pins and start saving money immediately.”
The new Pinterest capabilities are available through a new web site (www.Zoomingo.com) as well as through the Zoomingo app on iPhone and Android platforms. The new version seamlessly integrates local and online shopping to identify the best sales matched to the shopper’s preferences and tastes. Key features include:
- A comprehensive catalog of local and online sales anywhere in the US from the top 100 retailers such as Macys, Target, and Nordstrom across a wide range of categories including Women, Men, Kids, Home, Electronics, Sports & Fitness.
- Community based curation of sale items leveraging Pinterest popularity and the popular Hot or Not game on Zoomingo.
- Alerts on just the sales you’re interested in. Zoomingo remembers your store preferences, tracks your Pinterest pins and informs you of the most relevant sales.
- An easy to use location aware mobile experience that eliminates the hassle of bar code scanning and displays the most relevant sales at your favorite local stores.

Zoomingo was co-founded by Krishnan Seshadrinathan and Shirish Nadkarni, who also co-founded Livemocha, the world’s largest language learning website with more than 12 million users. Nadkarni also founded mobile email pioneer TeamOn, which was acquired by RIM in 2002. Nadkarni left Livemocha in 2011 and had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with his wife — an avid shopper. The experience of going from one store to another in the mall to find interesting things on sale quickly became tedious. Often, his wife might find an item, but not buy it because she wasn’t sure if there was something similar that was cheaper in another store. As a self-described “typical male shopper,” Nadkarni found the process time-consuming and frustrating, and searched for an app to help. Price comparison apps weren’t always reliable, and retailer mobile apps were geared to making online purchases. Nadkarni knew there had to be a better way — and the idea of Zoomingo was born.
